Winter Solstice/yule

During this time of year, we remember ceremonies and traditions. Have you ever wondered why we, as humans, have marked seasons, time, and our personal changes with ceremonies, traditions, since time immemorial? Archeoastronomy tells us that we humans have utilized several methods including monolithic structures to gaze at the heavens to call our communities together to celebrate at certain astrological events. I would imagine sacred spiritual traditions began in just such a way.

Now, we have all but ceased any celebrating and intentionally marking of powerful personal and universal cycles. Thus, we feel disconnected from the very Earth beneath our feet, the heavens above our head, and each other. Some, are even terrified of any event that causes them to look down at the Earth or up into the Sky. Fear of the natural occurrences that are sewn in the fabric of our very being.

Yet, at this time of year, we remember well our ceremonies and traditions. Even our sacred spiritual traditions asks us to look to the heavens and bring a reminder of the Earth inside our own homes. Listening to the rhythms of our own hearts to guide us to share, care, be kind, and to gather together, as well as keep what is dear and to let go of things no longer needed.

No matter how we celebrate this season or label this season according to our spiritual tradition, it is important for us to incorporate this magical time of year into our whole year, as we celebrate our lives on this extraordinary Earth.

The returning of the Light for me is a signal to remember the small increments of Light returning each day going forth into the new year. I light a candle for my loved ones that have transcended. I leave out chocolate for the fairies. I retell a story from my childhood with my grandmother playing the organ with all my family singing Silent Night.

I now know how I personally can set my intentions to let go of things in my life that have troubled me, no longer resonate, and thoughts that are festering because I remember the harshness over all else. This can mean people, places, ideas, mindsets, furniture, clothing, and the list is endless. I am making room for the new, the Light, and what resonates with who I am becoming.

Light a candle, go for a winter's walk in the woods, create some art, wear your favorite sweater, smile for yourself, allow more love for yourself by accepting that person you see in the mirror she/he really needs you. Accept, let go, and allow.

Be Blessed,

Tina
